DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION:Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.

This position requires proficiency and productivity in all areas of General Dentistry including restorative, prosthodontics, endodontics, periodontics, and oral surgery. The position will require excellent diagnostic skills and the ability to triage, diagnose, and manage a broad spectrum of urgent and chronic dental problems in a patient population with a high percentage of medically compromised individuals.
The Staff Dentist is expected to practice in accordance with accepted professional standards, organizational values, and with a commitment to excellent customer service. Incumbent should possess computer skills, good work ethics, administrative skills, and be able to function productively in a clinical environment. Incumbent will also perform other related duties as assigned.

Citizenship:Citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when no qualified citizens are available in accordance with regulations issued by the Under Secretary for Health or designee).
English Language Proficiency:Applicant must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). No person will be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C. Chapter 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity that is not proficient in written and spoken English.
Education:Degree of doctor of dental surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
1. United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Council on Dental Education, American Dental Association, in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.
2. Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence.
Residency or Comparable Experience:At full grade and above, one postgraduate year of hospital training in the form of an approved residency program (general practice or specialty), or comparable experience as a dentist member of a hospital medical staff actively involved in hospital dental care.
Licensure and Registration:Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Must maintain current registration in the State of Licensure if this is a requirement for continuing, active, current licensure.
You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.
You must submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test before you can be appointed into this position.
You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing.
