This position is located in the Office of Deputy Inspector General for Audit (OA), Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA). As an Auditor, you will:
-Serve as an auditor for TIGTA to provide expert audit services covering broad departmental programs.Assignments involve extensive problem solving, and planning and coordination of an expenditure of departmental audit resources in a number of geographical locations;and cover a great variety of work processes carried out in a number of organizations.
-Conduct valid and reliable research to analyze internal and external information to assess risk factors and identify high-risk areas.Independently identify, develop, and quantify audit outcomes for findings and recommendations that result in cost savings, program improvements, or revenue enhancement.Evaluate complex systems, controls and information, and provide sufficient, competent and reliable evidence to support audit issues on integrity situations.Ensure all elements of findings are developed and provides appropriate recommendations.
-Document in audit work papers the results of audit review, using correct formats, including source, purpose, conclusion, and results.Develop conclusions of audit tests that address the overall objective(s).Cross-reference work paper summaries and spreadsheets to supporting work papers.Create, review sand control work papers effectively.
-Independently identify and use complex specialized audit techniques to achieve audit objectives.Identify appropriate statistical sampling methods, quantitative methods, and computer technology.Apply advanced knowledge of auditing and accounting standards and principles;develop and maintain technical or issue expertise;and networks with others working in similar areas.Actively shares knowledge to better define the work scope and design.
-Analyze the efficiency and effectiveness of internal management and administrative controls, and evaluates their compliance with audit policies and procedures.Make recommendations for improvement where needed.
Occasional travel - 6-10 days a month

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Specialized experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service.Specialized experience for this position includes:

-Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following in relation to audits or projects:
-Communicating issues identified;
-Recommending courses of action;
-Performing briefings and/or presentations to management to defend a position or to gain support from the audience;

-Planning, conducting, and documenting results of audits or projects within a tax administration organization.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-13, you must have been at the GS-12 level for 52 weeks.
Education Requirements: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in accounting or in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. OR Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following: Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law; A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.
