A Surface Maintenance Mechanic, WG-5801-08-10, Troubleshoots, performs maintenance and major repairs on heavy duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical and automotive vehicles.Troubleshoots, repairs and overhauls major systems.Makes repairs to assemblies and components.Performs work in accordance with modification work orders, technical manuals, lubrication orders, maintenance bulletins, regulations or maintenance policies.May repair a variety of more complex major systems and a variety of intricate fuel injection systems.Troubleshoots equipment and diagnoses the cause of mechanical failures.Utilizes embedded diagnostics in equipment and a wide variety of original equipment manufacturer system analyzers to determine nature and extent of repair.Removes and disassembles engines and major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, and fuel, hydraulic, and oil pressure systems.Makes the appropriate repairs, overhaul, or modifications in accordance with the proper repair specifications and procedures.Reassembles engines and other systems.Independently performs repairs and maintenance function in remote locations.Conducts readiness and repair inspections on vehicles and associated equipment supported by the activity.Performs operational inspections and ensures vehicle and equipment are properly serviced.May maintain and repair electronics communication equipment.Assists in the maintenance of production reports and records.Performs other duties as assigned.

REMARKS: No PCS available. This is an indefinite position. Current on-board technicians will lost their status if selected. Members with rank higher than identified in 'Key Requirements' are eligible to apply, but may be required to take a reduction should they be selected. The military grade of the supervisor must equal or exceed the grade of personnel supervised. Sensitivity Level 2.

AREAS OF PRIORITY: In Accordance with MN National Guard Regulation 690-335 (Army) or 36-1 (Air), Applications will be forwarded to the selection official to conduct reviews by area of priority as listed below
Area 1: Current On-board Minnesota National Guard Title 32 Technicians who are in permanent or indefinite technician status as a result of being competitively hired within that National Guard component applying for a position within the component which they are currently employed.
Area 2: Current Minnesota National Guard Title 32 Technicians who are in permanent or indefinite technician status as a result of being competitively hired at a sister component that is identified on the Position Vacancy Announcement (PVA), including onboard Title 5 employees that are also current members of MNNG; i.e. Army MNNG to Air MNNG, Air MNNG to Army MNNG.
Area 3: All Minnesota National Guard members currently assigned to the MNANG or to the MNARNG applying for a position within the component in which they are currently assigned. i.e. temporary technician or Traditional Guardsman.
Area 4: Currently assigned service members in other branches of the military outside of the Minnesota National Guard, to include those assigned to Active Duty, Reserve or other state's National Guard.
Area 5: All individuals able to and willing to become members of the Minnesota National Guard including prior service not currently assigned to a military component and non-prior service US civilians.
