The Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Louisville, Kentucky is seeking physicians for full-time positions in our Primary Care program. If selected, applicants will provide outpatient primary care services to a diverse Veteran population at our New Albany Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC).
Applicants must be board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Practice. Recent, successful experience in primary care is preferred.
The Louisville VAMC has an academic affiliation with the University of Louisville. The VA offers an attractive salary and excellent benefits. The salary range for full time primary care physicians is currently $176,967- $224,553. Training, board certification and prior experience are considered in salary determination decisions.
The VA and assumes liability for tort claims associated with care provided in the course of official VA duties, and VA physicians are not required to carry individual malpractice insurance for care provided in VA practice.
The Louisville metropolitan area has population of nearly 1,000,000. The employee shall provide services which include, but are not limited to, diagnosing, treating and managing patients with typical primary care (including the routine care of women patients)conditions according to usual and acceptable or customary standards of medical practice. The provider will follow VA established clinical and preventative guidelines and document accordingly. The physician will report to the Chief, Primary Care. The physician will work independently, caring for outpatients in an established clinic. Specialists and other primary care providers are available for consultation. The physician will be expected to cooperate and collaborate fully with other staff members in meeting the medical care needs of VAMC patients. The physician will participate in medical duties and functions related to quality of care review and process improvement. The physician may be asked to participate on various committees and task forces as assigned and attend required meetings. The Physician will serve as a resource for Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants who are also delivering primary care and responds to all staff in the primary care teams in regards to patient concerns.
PRIMARY DUTY STATION: One (1) position will work from New Albany Community-based Clinic.
WORK SCHEDULE: Clinics are open weekdays, closed on Federal holidays. Primary care physicians do not have night or weekend call responsibilities. The specifics of physician schedules will be discussed during the interview process.
Physical Requirements: Light lifting (under 15 lbs.), light carrying (under 15 lbs.), use of fingers, walking 4-8 hours, standing 4-8 hours, near vision correctable at 13"to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other, hearing (aid permitted), emotional stability, mental stability, working closely with others, working alone, and working with bio hazardous material.
DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following:

- Physical standards - All applicants must meet the physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to employment will be required.
- Licensure and Registration ? Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States or in the District of Columbia. The Physician must maintain a current registration to continue employment with the VA
- Educational requirements - Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

- Board certification or eligibility in internal medicine/family medicine
- Prior experience working with either active duty or veteran population
