Candidate provides dermatology consultations to primary care physicians and other specialist. Provides feedback and patient education to the patients and their families and demonstrates excellence in all facets of patient care and meets or exceeds compliance standards. Other duties include; Evaluate, diagnose, consult, and order appropriate diagnostic studies; perform surgical and non-surgical dermatologic procedures on the skin and certain skin lesions as appropriate on all ages who present with injuries or diseases of the skin. The incumbent will provide consultative series on patients referred from other sections of the hospital and/or affiliated VA outpatient clinics, and perform administrative function and other tasks as assigned by the Chief of the Medicine Service. the incumbent is expected to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, and treatment of disease.
The ideal candidate should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team. The incumbent is expected to adhere to state policies and provide timely documentation of clinical notes (e.g. H&P, consult review, discharge summary, medication reconciliation, etc). In addition, the incumbent is expected to coordinate and communicate the treatment plan with primary care providers, nursing, social workers, clerical staff, pharmacy and other subspecialists and ancillary staff. The ideal candidate will help to ensure that high quality patient care is delivered in a resourceful and efficient manner.
Board certification is preferred.
WORK SCHEDULE: Full time, Monday thru Friday 08:00 -16:30 to include periodic extended hours & occasional 08:00 - 12:00 on Saturday.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS: VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2, dated April 15, 2002. This standard is available for review or you may access this standard through the internet at the following address: http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/ or http://vaww.appc1.va.gov/ohrm.
Citizenship. Citizen of the United States. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.)
Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
(1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.
(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
(3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
(4) For residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required except as provided in M-8, part II, chapter 1.
Licensure and Registration. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
First-Year Residency (Internship). Completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed. For a VA resident, the appropriate Deans Committee and Resident Review Board may recommend appointment on the basis of the candidate?s acceptability for residency training. Approved residencies are:
(1) Those approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals, American Medical Association, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or
(2) Other residencies or their equivalents which the Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. The Board may determine that the residency requirement has been met if the candidate has completed 1 year of postgraduate education.
Physical Standards. Applicants for this position must pass a pre-employment medical examination.
English Language Proficiency. Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
